My mom always had Bleeding Hearts in her garden (still does) when I was growing up. However, I never appreciated the uniqueness of the flower until I became a Horticulturalist. Today there are many new varieties of Bleeding Heart, with different foliage and flower colors. Great option if you have more sun than shade in your garden space.
(Also, the botanical name has recently been changed to Lamprocapnos spectabilis. Meh.)
